I was one of the three Men In Suits that sat on a JC for over-drinking. The nice, 20-something MS made the mistake of chugging beer at a Major League baseball game in the presence of a JW-teetotaler. He consumed two super-duper (40 oz?) beers within a couple of innings. He was "repentant" so only had private reproof, MS badge removed, and he continued on in the cult. But, he learned a valuable lesson: Don't drink in a way that can be quantified by JW narcs!

Happy Alcoholic Jehovah's Witnesses
by The Bethelite infor many years since the witness organization, after i have told people that i'm no longer a jehovah's witness, people would say "oh the religion were people are not allowed to drink!".

The Life of Pioneers...
by The Bethelite ini don't know why but sometimes like to check up my old/self righteous friend, gary kennedy from bethel on face book....he is a pioneer in ecuador.
yes and just like most pioneers he likes to brag on his selfless life style.
he is serving the lord my sitting at home and writing out thousands of letters long hand all day long to count his time.

I'm a little confused. If he's a pioneer in Ecuador, why is the return address Milton, GA?

Misheard song lyrics
by jhine ini thought that as there seems to have been some very serious sh-stuff being discussed lately maybe a light hearted thread might be in order .
i was thinking about misheard song lyrics ( climb every woman ) and it seemed a good topic for a thread .to start off for many years l thought that fat boy slim was singing about some very posh shoes with funk soul rubber on the bottom .
has anyone else realised that they have been singing the wrong words ?

As a JW teenager I was shocked that the FCC (U.S. broadcast regulators) would allow the following racy language by Elton John on the radio in his song Bennie & the Jets.
"She's got electric BOOBS, a mohair suit, you know I read it in a maga-zah-eeee-een."

A Salute to Petra/Atlantis
by Slidin Fast inwhilst i have never quite understood whether petra and atlantis are one or multiple entities i recognise the value of their work and web of contacts.
i think it is fair to say that no-one has consistently contributed more solid gold intelligence to this site.
no one has reliably passed on more bomb shells and solid news as well as day to day minutiae.

I rarely come on here (or post) anymore. But, I must add to the chorus of support for Atlantis, Petra & Vulcan.
It always brings my wife and I a smile of re-assurance that we made no mistake in walking away from the WT when we see the latest "secret" document almost immediately appear here.
Please re-consider about coming back. And we wish Petra peace and healing during her time away.

Hey there nicolaou!
Just popped in for the first time in many months and saw your post.
I subscribe to about 20 podcasts, but one of my faves is 99% Invisible.
Here's a quick cut & paste from their website:
Ever wonder how inflatable men came to be regular fixtures at used car lots? Curious about the origin of the fortune cookie? Want to know why Sigmund Freud opted for a couch over an armchair?
99% Invisible is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world. With over 250 million downloads, 99% Invisible is one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes and is available on RadioPublic, via RSS and through other apps.
The website is:
Hope you enjoy the podcast while on "your appointed rounds".

Thank you so much Atlantis!
Someone, who isn't an elder, tried telling me that the following bit from Chapter 14-7 had changed a long time ago.
********************************************
"7. To ensure that elders comply with child-abuse reporting laws, two elders should immediately call the Legal Department for legal advice when the elders learn of an accusation of child abuse. "
*********************************************
Clearly this has not changed. If little Johnny comes running out of the back room at the Kingdom Hall saying Elder Bob raped him, who are the Elders supposed to "immediately" call? Watchtower! Not 911.
Even though Chapter 14-6 plainly states "Child abuse is a crime." The crime scene is getting older by the minute, DNA evidence may be getting washed away, but the first priority is circling the wagons to protect Watchtower coffers. Forget about the abused child or the (possibly) falsely accused Elder Bob.
When will they learn?

I was a daily addict here roughly 13 years ago for the 3 years it took for my wife and kids to awaken.
Now, I check in about once or twice a year.
This place will always have a special place in my heart even though the atmosphere changes.
But, to answer the OP, yes, I just checked in today.
Cheers! (I'm still learning to refrain from posting a signature at the end of my entries. Got to keep in step with present truth and all that.) eye roll

Bohemian Rhapsody
by cofty inbeen to see the new film (movie) tonight.
outstanding!
brought back lots of memories.

As movies go, I'd say it was fairly good. Some of the acting seemed a bit forced to me.
However, Rami Malek's performance was absolutely worth the price of seeing it on a big screen with fancy Lay-Z-Boy recliners!
He really did a great job of capturing Freddie's energy and passion.
Also, as someone said earlier, finishing up with a recreation of the Live Aid concert was perfect.
Alright, here's a corny Queen fan-boy trivia question/joke I just made up.
Q: What's Brian May's favorite sexual position?
A: 39
(Let the groans begin!)

I was forced into being the Congregation Secretary for about two years. The previous secretary gave me his Humongo Bag which I would dutifully drag to the Hall when I knew we were going to have an Elders mtng after.
Hated it.
Here's a similar thread from the jurassic period when this place was called JWD.
